Currently, Phelps Stokes is recruiting for a Communications Assistant

GENERAL SUMMARY:    The Communications Assistant is responsible for providing communications consultation, communications planning, implementation and recommended solutions for Phelps Stokes programs, projects and events (targeting both internal and external audiences) to meet organizational brand and reputation goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Promotes Public visibility of Phelps Stokes

·         Conduct basic research on audience, delivery channels, content and message 

·         Carefully communicates with staff to understand and implement communications strategies, and writing and research projects 

·         Develop and edit, and distribute press releases, news advisories, invitations, calendar listings, fact sheets. Develop and edit brochures, postcards, profiles, Web site stories, newsletter stories, blog posts, and blast e-mails. Handle distribution of various communications via e-mail, web site, and print, as required.

·         Initiate, write and maintain social networking accounts and web content management systems.

·         Create and maintain communications contacts database and coordinate retrieval of addresses for mass mailings.

·         Coordinate or act as contact person for electronic mailings 

·         Assist with media relations and marketing (including management web sites) for external events, including conferences and celebrations.

·         Assist with implantation of marketing campaigns using traditional and nontraditional methods

·         Develop and maintain digital press kits

·         Create an annual task calendar for marketing and media relations activities and communicate responsibilities regularly to staff.

·         Assist with post-production duties for published products, including distribution to staff, maintenance of internal archival system.

·         Provide routine copyediting

·         Produce terms of reference for outsourcing communications services if needed.

·         Coordinate external consultants when appropriate

ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS: The Communications Assistant will communicate with internal staff and general public. The Communications Assistant will also be a point of contact for media, marketing and other public relations venues. S/he will be part of the Operational Support Group (OSP) and report to the Chief Operating Officer and/or VP for Programs and Strategy.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

·         Advanced organizing skills with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks under pressure

·         Ability to manage multiple competing priorities through to completion

·         Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal, meticulous attention to detail

·         Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively

·         Proven experience writing succinct, well-structured documents for external audiences

·         Writing experience  in  Spanish or French is an asset

·         Minimum two years direct writing experience in a communications or journalism position

·         Ability to communicate technical information for a general audience

·         Experience in Graphic Arts, Web Design and Project Management

·         Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships at all levels of the organization

·         Command of full suite of Microsoft Office programs, Outlook, Adobe, Photoshop and other essential programs

·         Demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups

Educational level:

BA in English, Journalism, Public Affairs or related Communications degree

 Desired experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct, relevant experience in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations
  • Non-Profit Organization experience preferred
  • Commitment to Social Justice, Leadership Development and Education
