Tiburce Igbaowo Chaffa

Tiburce is currently acting as the Phelps Stokes Web Content Fellow. Tiburce Igbaowo Chaffa has always been a curious individual, constantly probing and prodding any and every theory, question and contradiction.

In his early childhood he always held a strong desire for a role in politics and community enhancement and youth engagement to help his country. He built his goals in life around this childhood dream, the values taught by his Christian parents and the various experiences   he had have encountered and overcome as a teenager. In 2008, after his studies in Political Science and Sociology at the University of Ghana, Tiburce decided the time was now!

He proceeded and gradually succeeded to gather several friends who had the same mindset to form Jeunesse Revelation a group of young motivated people that aimed to educate peers to youth leadership and community development through which he spoke at many youth events.

The founder of Tee Motivations has led, participated in and spoke at many youth initiatives across the world such as The Global Youth Innovation Network forum and Fair 2011, Indian youth to business, ACE Conference 2012, ACE Global Village 2012 and is a member of the United Nations Academic Impact’s support Group.

In an effort to make his dream viable – which is to raise a new generation of commendable leaders and entrepreneurs in Africa – Tee Motivations has been working on an innovative African youth leadership program, made of a book Maximize Yourself, a comics and video versions. Others smart African young minds like Eric Muthoga, a US winning award Kenyan creative illustrator and Gorou Adama an Ivoirian marketing entrepreneur.

Tiburce Igbaowo Chaffa was born in Benin in West Africa on February 23rd 1985. He graduated in Literature and Philosophy at “Le Jardin des Elus” High School. He entered the University of Ghana- Legon after courses in the American school “International School of Benin” in June 2005.He has a background in Political Sciences, Communication and recently got a Business Analysis Certification from the International Institute of Business Analysis. He has worked with international companies and organizations like Tata Consultancy Services, Ecowas Bank for Development and Investment (EBID), the West African Bank for Development, Ovation International.

He defines his accomplishments and professional achievements as ever evolving and believe they will continue to shape him as an individual.

Thom Gallemore

Thom Gallemore comes to Phelps Stokes as a Field Coordinator for the Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Program and is currently residing in Porto-Novo, Benin. As a Field Coordinator for Phelps Stokes, he is working to replicate the successes of the Songhai Center, a vocational training center located in Porto-Novo, Benin. To replicate these successes, he is helping to create the Songhai Entrepreneurship and Education Fellowship program (SELF) through the use of the Global Youth Innovation Network. The goal of SELF is to help develop a generation of entrepreneurs who embody and integrate the principles of innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, technology, and agribusiness into a new management style.  In order for this to happen, the youth must engaged actively throughout the process and apply the lessons of Songhai to the context of their own communities.
Prior to coming to Phelps Stokes, he served as the Public Relations and Operations Director for the Jatukik Providence Foundation where he oversaw sustainable development programs in the Democratic Republic of Congo and aid efforts in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake.  A native of Fairfax, VA, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from American University and is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Sustainable International Development from the Heller School at Brandeis University.

Sara Kidibu

Francophone Assistant

Sara Kidibu joined the PAFE division at Phelps Stokes mid-September 2011. She is a junior at The George Washington University and is majoring in International Affairs with a concentration in Africa and Development. She is particularly interested in studying development in East Africa. She began to develop a passion for development in Africa while working alongside her father who is the head of a non-profit organization in Raleigh, NC called COCOM (Congolese Community of North Carolina-Raleigh) that provides resources that facilitate the assimilation of Congolese immigrants in the Raleigh/Durham area as well as raises awareness for the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Rachel Sly

Global Youth Innovation Network Program Manager

Rachel Sly is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she studied Foreign Affairs and Religious Studies. While in college, she briefly studied in India and interned in the Marketing and Development Department of the local Community Action Agency. She is now the program manager of the Global Youth Innovation Network and of the Songhai Entrepreneurial Leadership-Fellowship Program.

Moustapha Goumballa

Francophone Consultant

Moustapha Goumballa is currently serving as a consultant for the Programs for Africa and Freedom Endowment (PAFE) at Phelps Stokes, a 100 year-old-American nonprofit organization which is distinguished by a rich history of developing global leaders from underserved communities around the world and promoting racial, ethnic, and social justice in the Americas and Africa. As a consultant since February 2012, Mr. Goumballa manages all Francophone projects and program development as well as francophone and Give1Project interns. He receives reports from all Phelps Stokes Francophone projects, partners, and clients and reports directly to the Director of PAFE. Mr Goumballa had indeed served as a volunteer at Phelps Stokes for 4 months prior to his consultant position.

Mr. Goumballa holds a Master’s degree in International law with a focus on International Relations from University Cheikh Anta Diop and a degree of Advanced Studies in Human Rights and Peace at the Institute of Human Rights and Peace in Dakar where he served as a Human Rights activist and campaign volunteer. After his arrival in the United States in 2009 from his home country Senegal, Mr. Goumballa has worked as an Africa Program intern for Search for Common Ground (SFCG) as well as a Legal Intern for the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations (UN) in New York. Mr Goumballa is an active member of Senegalese Next Generation of Leaders (SENEGEL) and is also affiliated as a member to the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), Gender, Rights, and Citizenship / Fundamental Rights Networks (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie).

Jim Coffin

Jasmine Poskitt-Jones

Human Resources Assistant

Jasmine Poskitt-Jones   became a member of the Phelps Stokes’ team in May 2012 as a Human Resources Intern.  She has a bachelor’s degree in economics and is now a graduate student at Florida State University pursuing her MBA. While at Phelps Stokes Jasmine hopes to learn more about managing non-profit organizations,  and would ultimately like to have a career in Human Resources Development and Organizational Management.

Idil Samantar

Manager, Human Resources & Board Relations

Idil Samantar joined Phelps Stokes in April 2009 as the Executive Assistant to the President and Board Relations. In 2011, Ms. Samantar assumed additional responsibilities in her new position as Manager of Human Resources and Board Relations.  Prior to joining Phelps Stokes and over the course of 7 years, Ms. Samantar held a few positions in the Human Resources and Disaster Operations departments at the National Headquarters of the American Red Cross.  Ms. Samantar brings over a decade of experience in the nonprofit sector with a focus on humanitarian services for underserved and marginalized communities.

Hernando Viveros

Hernando Viveros has been at Phelps Stokes for two years, working first as the Program Assistant for National Homecomers Academy as well as the former Latin American and Caribbean Program.  Before joining the Phelps Stokes team, Hernando was the Youth Consultant for the Youth Buenaventura Empowerment Organization for USAID Columbia and is the member of the International Committee for the First World Summit of African descendants. Hernando is also an experienced youth leader and community activist with 13 years of experience as an advocate of Afro-Descendants devoted to the initiatives and efforts that address societal and global policies towards peace for youth.

Henry Jimenez

Henry Jimenez joined Phelps Stokes in 2012 in order to collaborate in the implementation of different projects for the improvement of the quality of life of the Afro - Colombian community. At the same time, Mr. Jimenez serves as a Special Assistant to the Governor of the State of Chocó, Colombia, Mr. Luis Murillo for International Affairs in the U.S. Prior to joining Phelps Stokes, Mr. Jimenez has spent over 8 years on the education sector and is currently working as a Spanish Professor at Trinity University.
