The Professional Leadership Internship Program is a hands-on training program for undergraduate and graduate students who represent a variety of academic disciplines and career tracks. The internship program is designed to provide interns with real world experience that complement their academic focus. Phelps Stokes interns should have a demonstrated history of being a force for change coupled with an interest in promoting sustainable development and positive social change. Phelps Stokes’ PLIP is guided by two core values: active engagement and co-production; each intern is active in designing the overall learning experience. The program begins with a comprehensive orientation where interns are introduced to Phelps Stokes as an organization and become familiar with the projects they will be working on. They also have the opportunity to meet the other interns and participate in individualized goal-setting sessions. Interns give and receive constructive feedback and performance evaluations at least twice during their program. They also enjoy unique experiential learning opportunities, weekly training sessions designed to hone leadership and professional skills. Finally, all interns develop a personalized capstone project that is presented to Phelps Stokes and partner-organization staff, as well as the cohort of PLIP interns.
