The D.C. Center for Global Education and Leadership (CGEL) in partnership with Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will be honoring the lives lost on 9/11.
The Glenncrest MADH and Dreaming Out Loud would like to invite all members of the Glenncrest neighborhood, community volunteers and organizations, to our third Community Garden Meeting.
Every month Phelps Stokes’ Programs for Africa and Freedom Endowment hosts a Palaver Hut, a symposium that creates an environment of productive dialogue on an important issue. This month’s event is entitled, “Women’s Entrepreneurship and International Partnership”. We are extending an invitation to you and hope to see you there. Space is limited, so please RSVP.

Mr. Bill McKee, Director of Southern Regional Project

Bill McKee was born on June 29, 1970 in Greensboro North Carolina where he attended Guilford County schools. He continued his education at Winston Salem State University lettering in football and graduating Cum Laude. After receiving his Masters degree in Adult Education in 1998 from North Carolina A&T State University, Bill went on to be a case manager in the Durham Public School system in North Carolina, where he worked extensively with at risk youth.
 
While in Durham, Bill served his county as a board member of the Work First Program at the behest of the County Commissioners. Bill also served as Vice Chair of the Durham County Library Board, which underscores his commitment to community, based lifelong learning for all citizens. Bill was asked to deliver an address in 2001 at Governor Mike Easley's "State of the Black Male Conference", held in Greensboro, North Carolina.
 
He went on to lecture and work as Program Coordinator at Clemson University’s school of Education in the nationally known "Call Me Mister" program. Bill later went on to become a Senior Fellow and Southern Regional Representative of the Phelps Stokes Fund. Bill describes this as the high point in his professional life. "To be able to earn a living, in the service of humanity, in one of our nation’s most prestigious organizations is a dream come true." Bill speaks to various groups on the topics of "Hip Hop music and popular culture, and on modern day globalization." Bill also hosts the talk show, "Portraits A Biography" on local Greensboro, North Carolina television.
 
In October, 2008, he was named "Honorary Mayor/President of Baton Rouge Louisiana, the state capitol.  In July of 2009, Bill was named to the Board of Trustees of Barber-Scotia College, in Concord North Carolina. Bill was chosen by the Ford Foundation, along with 46 other leaders of globalization and foreign policy to help shape US foreign policy at the "2009 Unheard Voices Conference" at the Ford Foundation in New York, New York. Bill was chosen by the Kellogg Foundation along with 39 other leaders, to help shape governmental policy as it relates to young black boys, in March of 2009, in Washington DC at the historic Mayflower Hotel. His philosophy states that, "servant leadership is true leadership indeed."
