The Palavar Hut discussion on International Ethical Leadership was a "great success" according to the Phelps Stokes' Program for Africa and Freedowment (PAFE) Director, Pape Samb. The Palavar hut panelists included: Mayor Malick Diop of POINT-E-Amitie, Senegal, Mayor Adamou Njoya of Cameroon, Mayor Khalifa Sall of Dakar, Senegal, Connie Morris-Hope of Carapace Coaching and Consulting, Gov. Mr. Samb mentions that International Ethical Leadership involves developing leaders of the African Diaspora to lead with a code of ethics and making these developing leaders aware that they have a great responsibilty to their communities here in the United States, Africa, and worldwide. Programs for Africa and Freedom Endowment's International Ethical Leadership Program (IELP) not only focuses on Western norms of leadership and code of ethics, but (IELP) also incorporates African norms of leadership and African code of ethics. Mr. Samb also mentioned that the discussion on International Ethical Leadership should not end with the Palaver Hut, but that it must continue within our communities worldwide.
Gov. Luis Gilberto Murillo-Urritia, Former Governor of Choco, Colombia and International Ethical Leadership Palaver Hut Panelist states that, "We as international leaders that serve the African diaspora should take advantage of the historical gifts of our ancestors in terms of hope, the pursuit of justice and freedom , solidarity, collaboration and networking even under extreme hostile conditions and against the odds. Those values are the foundation to build trust, credibility and respect for our people. Those historical lessons are very relevant for today’s global leaders.”
The International Ethical Leadership Program is continuously expanding its message and is currently involved with Senegal, Kenya, Liberia, Tanzania, South Africa, and Cameroon and communties of the African Diaspora here in the United States.
